WINNETKA, IL - One of Winnetka’s most recognizable landmarks is the famous house from “Home Alone,” the unmistakable red-brick Georgian at 671 Lincoln Ave.
The house has seen its fair share of onlookers, including many movie lovers who have made it a mission to see the house that became famous when the movie starring Macauley Culkin hit the big screen in 1990.
But in that time the house has also seen its fair share of property taxes.
While not unlike many other mansions like it on Chicago’s North Shore, the Home Alone house has caused quite a bill for its owners.
According to information published by the Madison Record in Wisconsin, owners of the home paid more than $35,700 in property taxes in 2015. For the 206 fiscal year, the taxes are expected to go up to $36,500.
Which wouldn’t be so bad for the community if the home were in a designated TIF district.
Since 1990, the Record reports that nearly $750,000 have been paid in property taxes on the home, closer to $782,000 if you factor in inflation. That’s almost half the value of the house today.
